BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Traditional Healers Organization is a leading non-governmental, non-for profit and self- regulatory professional organization whose members are traditional health practitioners of indigenous traditional healing and medicine. The organization was initiated in 1970 with its Headquarters in Eswatini and a National Head office in Johannesburg, South Africa. Our membership comprises of various specialties and levels of indigenous traditional health practices and systems. We are responsible for more than 78,000 THP’s and our mandate is to promote, protect, preserve, and develop the delivery of traditional healthcare, medicine trade, culture and African spirituality. The Organization prides itself for having played a key role in promoting traditional healing and medicine. For this role, THO is considered a leader and an authority in the traditional healing sector.

MISSION

Our mission is to:

Train, educate, register and advocate for recognition by all stakeholders, government, and private sector
Advocate for recognition of traditional health practitioners and practices by stakeholders both private and public.
Be the leading information hub on traditional health practices nationally and internationally
Provide accredited training and education for traditional health practitioners
Promote protect, and monitor the practice of members
Provide registration for qualified THPs
Provide HIV counseling
